Welcome to Beautifully Broken Issue 10 and thank you to the new subscribers this week!
In the lead article we explore embracing paradox and rejecting tribal thinking: instead of saying “only our way is the one/true/right way” what would happen if we try out “all ways are true, all paths lead to the same source”?
For our Broken World segment we look at the invisible gatekeeper that decides what the global audience is allowed to see and how it effects content creators.
The latest installment in the fictional modern haibun Into The Labyrinth focuses on the idea of receiving the right advice, at the wrong time, when we’re in an emotionally difficult position. The right teaching comes but we are unable to understand or act on it because we are clouded in confusion.
For Footprints In The Sand (which features inspirational art or writing by a deceased artist or writer) I've chosen an excerpt from Richard Brautigan's chapter “The Library” from his book Abortion: A Historical Romance. I pose a question and answer it: What is it about Brautigan's library that is so appealing? A place that is both in and not in the world. A place outside of time where different rules apply.
I hope you enjoy my reportage haiku of a train journey to the genteel English countryside.
I post the sections separately to the Beautifully Broken substack as soon as they’re done (mostly Friday, Saturday) and before I compile each article to form the weekly edition for email subscribers so feel free to check in at morganbuchanan.substack.com if you want early access (subscriber only articles will still only be available to subscribers).
Have a great weekend,
Morgan
ps: Make sure to scroll all the way to the end to see 1) my time travel adventure with the courtiers of the Elizabethan Star Chamber and 2) my discovery of the rare book shelf in The London Library.
