Instagram served me up this video by the great Jiddu Krishnamurti. It's exactly what I was trying to communicate when I wrote the article The 3rd Way: Solving Global & Personal Conflict By NOT Choosing A Side (with Mahatma Gandhi & Martin Luther King).
It covers the importance of not choosing a side, not identifying as anything in particular and avoiding tribal thinking in order to save humanity from itself.
It's a hard pill to swallow in this age of identity and the young in this video clearly seem to have some difficulties wrapping their heads around the concept, but the beauty of youth is that, having absorbed this important message at an early stage of life, they will have time for the world to prove to them that the teaching is correct. It will provide a touchstone they can keep coming back to when they find themselves pressures or drawn into choosing a side.
The fact that social media served this video up after I'd written my article, gave me some small hope that the algorithmic future that awaits us can be turned to a good purpose. News media has never had an interest in promoting peace, it thrives on an agenda of conflict, on telling the mass tribe what it should think on any given matter, prompted by the government of the day's position.
Instead, if a message of universal inclusion like Krishnamurti's can be shared via the algorithm-driven networks, then countless millions who would have never have heard anything like it will have the chance to choose the third side, the side of no side, the portal of peace.
