The Olympics is coming to France in July this year. This got me thinking about just how much potential the Olympics has to participate in the drive towards world peace.
Why is it vitally important for countries to compete in the Olympic Games to see who is the best? Because the Olympics is an athletic United Nations. Let the countries fight it out on the sporting field. Let them send athletes who carry their honor and culture to challenge those of other nations to see who is the strongest, the fastest, the cleverest. And let it end there. Let those games be the stopping point of conflict.
How did team sports develop? I think these kinds of games have their origins in group psychology: when we are not at war, we need a way to channel our collective, tribal aggression.
